Headline newsOhio State to expand Blueprint: College access initiativeOhio State's new Blueprint: College program will double in size in the spring, thanks to a $108,000 grant from TG's Public Benefit Grant Program, the philanthropic arm of TG, a Texas-based, non-profit corporation. Blueprint: College assists elementary school families from Columbus City Schools to create "blueprint plans" to help set the right path toward academic and college success. The grant will expand the program from 5 to 11 underserved schools, and benefit more than 100 new families and 250 elementary school students. Read more >
Dixson is latest Kirwan Institute Small Grant recipientAdrienne Dixson, assistant professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, is the latest recipient of funding from the Kirwan Institute Small Grants Program. Dixson will conduct a study, "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?: Rebuilding Public Education in Post-Katrina New Orleans," that involves on-site research in New Orleans. The Kirwan Institute Small Grants Program is designed to support research that will deepen the understanding of racial and ethnic disparities at the local, national and international levels. Lincoln Tower chiller replacement project impacts drive, disability parkingWork on the Lincoln Tower chiller replacement project will require closure of the drive around the base of Lincoln Tower today (12/5), Monday (12/8) and Tuesday (12/9). Alternate disability parking spots are located in the Mid-Towers and South Lincoln lots. Access to the loading dock will be directly from Cannon Drive and will be maintained during the drive closure. Crane lifts of equipment to the 24th floor are scheduled to occur at Morrill and Lincoln towers Friday (12/19), Saturday (12/20) and Sunday (12/21). Cannon Drive will be closed to through traffic Friday morning (12/19)-Monday noon (12/22). Access to Drake Union and the Mid-Towers lot will be maintained throughout this period. Today: School of Music talent showcased in annual Celebration ConcertThe School of Music presents its annual showcase event, the Musical Celebration Concert, at 8 p.m. today (12/5) in Mershon Auditorium. The fast-paced program of popular, classical and some seasonal selections involves more than 300 student musicians and singers performing in 16 different ensembles, large and small. Help available for faculty and others seeking undergraduate researchersThe Undergraduate Research Office invites faculty, postdocs and graduate students to use a form available online to advertise research opportunities (volunteer or paid, credit or non-credit) for targeted student applicants (e.g., by academic major, year, honors status, etc.). Read more > Musical performance to give voice to classic silent film at the WexnerThe Columbus premiere of The Golem, a film screening and simultaneous performance of its musical score, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (12/6) at the Wexner Center for the Arts. Internationally renowned Klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer and Columbus’ own Carpe Diem String Quartet will perform the orchestration written by acclaimed Israeli composer Betty Olivero. The Golem, a 1920 silent film classic by Paul Wegener is the inspiration for numerous modern works, including the original Frankenstein film. Read more > OSU Alumni Association hosts basketball bash Dec. 6The OSU Alumni Association and the Greater Indianapolis Alumni Club will host a free Buckeye Bash at noon Saturday (12/6) prior to the Ohio State men’s basketball game, set for 4 p.m. against Notre Dame at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Anyone with a game ticket is invited. Activities will take place inside the stadium and include performances from the cheerleaders, pep band and Brutus Buckeye, with remarks from OSU Athletics Director Gene Smith.
