OSU Marching Band selected for Inaugural Parade

The Ohio State Marching Band will just have time to recover its collective breath following the Fiesta Bowl on Monday (1/5/09) in Phoenix before heading to the nation’s capital to participate in the 56th Presidential Inaugural Parade on Tuesday (1/20/09). The band was chosen after a rigorous application process, which included submission of a resume, video and recommendations from state officials to the Presidential Inaugural Committee in Washington, D.C. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Ford rep to discuss Re-Electrification of the Automobile Dec. 10

Ohio State faculty and researchers are invited to a seminar on the (Re) Electrification of the Automobile, from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday (12/10) in E100 Scott Laboratory. Michael A.Tamor, executive technical leader, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Vehicle Research at Ford Motor Company, will discuss how the re-electrification of the automobile is enabled by progress in battery technology, but may itself enable revolutions in the nature and the economics of personal transportation. 2009 Fiesta Bowl ticket lottery begins today at 10 a.m.

Students, faculty and staff who purchased 2008 OSU full or split season tickets and would like to apply for Fiesta Bowl tickets may submit a lottery entry online from 10 a.m. today (12/9) through noon Friday (12/12). All tickets purchased will need to be picked up by the original ticket holder in Arizona. Pick up dates and locations will be determined closer to the bowl game. Tickets are $155 each, including processing fees. All orders must be placed online at www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com. Direct questions to (800) GoBucks.

Herbarium lecture about Ohio plants Dec. 10

Bob Klips, associate professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology, OSU Marion will present “Introduction to Local Flora: Important Plant Families of Ohio” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (12/10) in the OSU Museum of Biological Diversity Auditorium, 1315 Kinnear Road. Fiesta Bowl tour packages available for faculty, staff and students

With the Buckeyes Fiesta Bowl bound, the Office of Student Life is coordinating special bowl tour packages for students, faculty and staff. Packages are now available for purchase by calling 247-BOWL, visiting the Ohio Union at Ohio Stadium, or logging on to ohiounion.osu.edu/bowltour. All cash sales must be made in person. Check the bowl tour web site for the most up-to-date information regarding packaging and pricing.

USAC to sponsor Hidden Benefits Fair Dec. 10

The University Staff Advisory Committee is sponsoring the 14th annual Hidden Benefits Fair from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday (12/10) in the French Field House. The Hidden Benefits Fair has grown each year with attendance exceeding 2,000 staff last year. Admission is free and discounted hot dogs and soda will be available. The Departments of Internal Medicine and Surgery will hold a combined Grand Rounds from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday (12/11) in the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute Auditorium. Christine Cassel, president and CEO of the American Board of Internal Medicine, will present "Professionalism and Public Accountability: The Role of Certification in the Modern Era."
