From Astrophysics to Biomedicine via NanotechnolgyA cover story in the radiation therapy magazine IMAGE reported on novel developments in the use of X-rays and nanoparticles for cancer diagnostics and therapy by an interdisciplinary group at Ohio State and other institutions. The article, "The X-Ray Reloaded: Rearming Radiography with Resonant Theranostics," may be viewed online. The collaboration at OSU is led by Anil Pradhan (OSU professor of Astronomy and Chemical Physics), and includes researchers from the College of Biological and Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and the OSU Medical Center. Fellows will be affiliated with one of the eight academic units of SBS: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech and Hearing Science. Up to three fellowships will be awarded and appointments will begin September 2009. View application details. This annual awards program will recognize up to five units or individuals that have demonstrated a significant commitment to enhancing diversity at Ohio State. Nominations are due Wednesday (12/31). OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting Dec. 18The next OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting will take place from noon-1 p.m. Thursday (12/18) in 234 Meiling Hall and will focus on the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. The CCTS will foster the development of new programs and enhance existing efforts in 10 key areas that range from graduate education, research training, career support, faculty mentoring, and pilot funding to support clinical and translational research activities. CCTS program staff will provide a brief introduction to the resources and programs available. The event is open to everyone. It is expected that through generation of preliminary data, this funding will facilitate researchers in acquiring extramural support for new and expanded biomedical research efforts. You will be notified when the W-2 is available. Register any time during the year, however, any consent made on or after Thursday (1/15/09) will be regarded as consent for the next year (2010). If you sign up for the online option you will not receive a copy of the W-2 statement in the mail. Employees who have previously registered do not need to register again.
