Ohio, OSU featured in economic development supplement in Forbes

Ohio State, the OSU Medical Center and The James joined Gov. Ted Strickland, Lt. Governor and Development Director Lee Fisher and a host of other Ohio leaders in a special Ohio economic development supplement that is featured in the latest edition of Forbes magazine. The article, "Ohio: The State of Perfect Balance" focuses on key industries, advanced and renewable energy, sustainable innovation, workforce development, and the significant economic impacts of Ohio State and its affiliated health centers. Among the OSU initiatives highlighted are: the Food Industries Center, the Center for Advanced Functional Food Research and Entrepreneurship, Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center, the Center for Personalized Health Care, and Ohio State’s key cancer partners, the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Rosol to serve on executive committee of national advisory board

Thomas Rosol, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research in Technology Licensing and Commercialization and OSU professor of Veterinary Biosciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been elected to serve on the seven-member executive committee of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics Advisory Board, which provides advice to the Secretary of Agriculture, U.S. Congress, and land-grant colleges and universities on top priorities and policies for food and agricultural research, education, extension and economics. Rosol also serves as the chair of the committee on Invasive Species. Read more >

Developing the Habit of Innovation workshop Jan. 13

Join the OSU Leadership Center from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday (1/13/09) at the Fawcett Center for a workshop, "Personal Brilliance - Developing the Habit of Innovation." Facilitated by Jim Canterucci, author of Personal Brilliance, the workshop will include an address from President E. Gordon Gee and special interviews with Jack Park, radio personality on the Ohio State Football Radio Network, Joan Herbers, OSU scientist and advocate for women in science, Artie Isaac, founder of Young Isaac, and Ken Schnacke, president and general manager of the Columbus Clippers. Reminder: Carmen workshops and individual help available

Attend a Carmen workshop on topics such as QuickStart, Gradebook, Quizzes, Media Manager, and CarmenWiki. Sessions are scheduled through Thursday (1/15/09) at five locations on the Columbus campus. Oncology researcher to lecture Dec. 19

Timothy M. Fan, assistant professor of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the next speaker in the Comparative Oncology Signature Program. He will present "Aminobisphosphonates and Osteosarcoma-From Malignant Osteolysis to Metastases" from 8-9 a.m. Friday (12/19) in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Auditorium, 601 Vernon L. Ohio State recreation facilities open daily over the holidays

Recreational Sports announces it will keep at least one recreation center open every day including Christmas and New Year's Day and will offer special family hours throughout the holiday season. Non-member faculty and staff are also welcome to purchase guest passes for daily use. Special hours continue through Saturday (1/3/09). View facility hours

Latino Ohio: A culture course in English for educators and other professionals

Meeting on six Saturdays this spring, Latino Ohio will offer a close-up look at Hispanic life in Ohio with attention to cultural, linguistic and professional issues especially important to those working with Spanish-speaking populations. The 5-credit course is taught by Terrell Morgan, OSU associate professor of Hispanic linguistics, and is designed to introduce educators and other professionals to Ohio's Hispanic communities. OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting Dec. 18

The next OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting will take place from noon-1 p.m. Thursday (12/18) in 234 Meiling Hall and will focus on the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. The CCTS will foster the development of new programs and enhance existing efforts in 10 key areas that range from graduate education, research training, career support, faculty mentoring, and pilot funding to support clinical and translational research activities.
