Spotlight on ... Contact Lens and Tear Film Lab

Located in the College of Optometry, the Contact Lens and Tear Film Lab conducts adult research studies related to dry eye disease and contact lens wear. Under the direction of Dr. Kelly Nichols, associate professor of optometry, and Dr. Jason Nichols, assistant professor of optometry, the laboratory conducts both federally funded and industry sponsored research studies. Studies include those specific to an assortment of conditions including dry eye disease, meibomian gland disease, ocular allergy, and a variety of contact lens clinical trials. Follow Cunz Hall progress via Public Health’s new web blog

By fall 2011, the College of Public Health will have a new home in a $24 million renovated Cunz Hall, the waffle-like building located west of the Thompson Library. Until then, though, there is much to do to get the university’s first-LEED certified renovation project completed. Follow the building’s progress via the college’s new web blog, written by Renee Watts. As manager of the Cunz Hall project, Watts has an interesting and entertaining perspective of what’s happening. Several years ago, Earle Holland, assistant vice president for research communications in the Office of University Relations, was asked to serve on the board of directors for a national organization, Americans for Medical Progress, a strong, vocal supporter of the responsible use of animals in research. YP4H biometric health screenings still available

Additional biometric screening appointments are now available. Visit YourPlanForHealth.com to schedule your screening and to complete your Personal Health Assessment. Or use the biometric health values from your annual physical exam to complete your PHA. You can still complete your 2009 PHA to receive a pro-rated medical plan premium reduction — $20 a month or $9.23 biweekly — in 2010. You must complete the PHA on an annual basis to receive your medical plan premium reduction.

Today: Ellen Tressel to light ‘Tree of Hope’ in annual ceremony

Ellen Tressel will light the “Tree of Hope” at 11:30 a.m. today (12/2) on the east lawn of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at Ohio State. Steven Gabbe, CEO of the OSU Medical Center and Michael Caligiuri, CEO of The James and director of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center, will offer comments prior to the lighting. Dec. 3: Darwin Series lecture with Tim Berra

In partnership with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the final event in the Darwin: The Growth of an Idea series will feature scholar Tim M. Berra, OSU emeritus professor of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, at 7 p.m. Thursday (12/3) at the Fawcett Center. Annual holiday lighting ceremony at Mirror Lake Dec. 3

Join students, faculty, and staff and help kick off the holiday season with the official lighting of an outdoor display around Mirror Lake. American Heart Association - Grants@Heart workshop Dec. 4

Treatment Implications for Sex or Porn Addicts

The College of Social Work is offering "Treatment Implications for Sex or Porn Addicts" from 9 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Tuesday (12/8) at 115 Stillman Hall. CEU/clock hours available. Participants will leave this training with an increased feeling of competency with how to process past behaviors in the session, how to help the client understand how to use support group versus the therapy session, and how to help the client decrease feelings of guilt and shame.
