Analysts: Ohio, nation, should brace for long recovery period

If trends of recoveries from past recessions are any indication, Ohioans can expect job growth to mirror that of the rest of the nation, say Ohio State analysts. And while that will be an improvement from previous decades when the state lagged behind the national average during recovery periods, it still could be seven or eight years before the state's employment reaches pre-recession levels. Jane Hamblin named executive director of Mortar Board

Jane Hamblin has been named to lead Mortar Board, a national honor society housed within the Honors & Scholars unit, as its executive director. Hamblin, a former associate dean of students from Purdue University, brings both higher education administration and nonprofit association experience to her role. She holds a B.S. from Purdue University and a J.D. from Indiana University and holds the Certified Association Executive distinction American Society of Association Executives. Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Dec. 8: Town hall to explore U.S.-China relations

CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (12/8) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. I. Allen Barber II, president of the Denver-Hainan Corporation, will deliver "Influencing our Future: A Dynamic Strategy to Revitalize Ohio Through Partnerships with China." Register by Jan. 11 to receive W-2 statements online

Payroll Services is reminding employees that they can register to receive an online, printable version of their W-2 Wage and Tax Statement that will be posted on a secure Web site in late January. Register by Monday (1/11). Anyone who signs up for this online option will not receive a copy of the W-2 statement in the mail. H1N1 presentations available through College of Public Health

Ohio State’s College of Public Health faculty, staff and students have been trained by the Columbus Public Health Department to give presentations on H1N1 to community groups. Presentations include information on flu prevention, groups most at risk, flu symptoms, vaccinations and comparisons to seasonal flu. The college’s Center for Public Health Practice is coordinating the speaker requests. A request form is available at http://cph.osu.edu/h1n1_regform.cfm.

Today: Eco Bags Workshop II & III at OSU Urban Arts Space

Back by popular demand! Bring your unwanted disposable plastic shopping bags and transform them into beautiful and sturdy handbags at the OSU Urban Arts Space today (12/3), from 3-5 p.m. or 5-7 p.m. Accommodating both beginner and advanced participants, Artisan Marcia Trakas will work with guests to crochet the bags into masterpieces, keeping them out of the landfill.
