Spotlight on ... OSU Extension University District Team

Teaming up with Ohio State's neighbors is the focus of OSU Extension's University District Team, based at the Community Outreach Center, 1427 N. Grant Ave. With the help of Ohio State faculty, staff and students and a host of enthusiastic area volunteers, the team provides many services, including a workforce development program, which helps residents find employment, and a computer lab, which attracts at least 50 residents a week for computer training, GED classes, financial literacy and other Extension programs. In addition, in the last five years, the center's free tax-preparation service has helped 1,483 families recover $2.3 million in earned income and child tax credits. Plus, the center runs a 4-H after-school program at Indianola Math, Science and Technology Middle School, which provides organized activities for at-risk youth.

Videos highlight unique research capabilities of Ohio State

Two recent videos highlight the unique research capabilities of Ohio State. The first, created for the fall 2009 McCormick Conference on Energy Solutions hosted by the Kiplinger Program in the John Glenn Institute, provides an overview of the work of Ohio State’s 300 plus energy and environmental researchers. The second captures the innovative work of the Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particle Physics. Each was designed to be played during conferences, thus, they can be understood without audio. They also can be found on monitors in the Thompson Library and on other digital locations.

New university travel system saves time, cuts paperwork

Jeanne Osborne, director of diversity for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, arranges travel for herself and for research or conferences for many of the college's graduate students. That used to mean hours and hours spent each month filling out forms, walking them to the correct offices for approvals and lots of time waiting. But now the university's new travel system cuts way down on the paperwork — and needless delays — that used to be associated with traveling on university business. University’s supplies of H1N1 vaccine not among those recalled

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Tuesday (12/15) that 800,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine for children had been recalled because tests indicated the vaccine had lost some strength.
