Ohio State cancer researcher elected to national post

Michael D. Lairmore of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute and a veterinarian in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been elected president of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, which has more than 1,500 members in 17 countries. Lairmore chairs the department of veterinary biosciences and is associate director for basic sciences at the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center. Read more >

Soil borings around Lincoln/Morrill Towers and Drake Union

Several soil borings (soil samples) will take place around Lincoln/Morrill Towers and Drake Union beginning as early as Tuesday (12/29). Expected completion is Wednesday (1/6/10). OSUToday holiday production schedule

During quarter breaks, OSUToday is published on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. In addition, OSUToday will not be published on Friday (1/1/10) due to the holiday. Daily production will resume Monday (1/4/10).

YP4H biometric health screenings available for January

Biometric screening appointments are now available for January. Faculty and staff can still complete their Personal Health Assessment to receive a pro-rated medical plan premium reduction — $20 a month or $9.23 biweekly — in 2010. Spend New Year’s Eve at the RPAC

Join at least 1,400 of your closest friends as the Ohio State community celebrates New Year’s Eve at the RPAC from 9 p.m. Thursday (12/31)-1 a.m. Friday (1/1/10). This family fun, non-alcoholic event has become an Ohio State tradition. The evening is filled with recreational activities, children’s arts and crafts, international music, food, party hats and lots of noise as everyone welcomes the new year at midnight. Check out work of Luc Tuymans at Wexner's First Sunday

Come see the Wexner Center’s internationally acclaimed retrospective of the paintings of Belgian artist Luc Tuymans — and catch it for free on the First Sunday (1/3/10). That’s also the last day to see the show before it tours to San Francisco, then on to Dallas, Chicago, and Brussels. The gallery will be free to everyone from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. School of Architecture Baumer Lecture Series kicks off Jan. 6

The Knowlton School of Architecture Winter/Spring 2010 Baumer Lecture Series kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (1/6/10) in 250 Knowlton Hall with Design Ecologies, featuring a book launch and several Knowlton School of Architecture faculty speakers. Design Ecologies is a collection of never-before-published essays and case studies by today's most innovative designers and critics under increasing pressure to offer a sustainable future. Master Gardeners' Home Gardener Series starts in January

The Home Gardener Series, offered January-November by Franklin County Master Gardeners, OSU Extension, includes 21 classes in four series (winter, spring, summer and fall). Classes include: growing fruit, small space vegetable gardening, landscape design, rain gardens, sustainable gardening, fall lawn care, and composting. Classes are 3 hours and are held 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays at Ohio State. Cost is $40 per class. To register, contact mailto:skurdal.1@osu.edu or 247-6046. The 2010 ASH Review will take place Friday (1/22/10) at the Biomedical Research Tower on campus. The conference will cover updates from the ASH national conference on the biology, etiology, diagnosis and management of hematologic disorders. CME credits are available for attending.
