Ohio State's parking lease deal hailed as 'Deal of the Year'

The Bond Buyer has named Ohio State’s 50-year concession of its parking operations as "top nontraditional financing" deal of the year. The award was made during the publication's 11th annual Deal of the Year Awards in New York City.

In accepting the award, Ohio State Chief Financial Officer Geoff Chatas noted that the successful leasing of the institution's parking operations has provided the university with the flexibility to fund and sustain the academic core, which is vitally important in financing the university's vision to become the world's preeminent public comprehensive university, solving problems of worldwide significance.

Leadership transition in Human Resources

President Gee has asked Jeff Kaplan to serve as Interim Vice President for Human Resources as the university conducts a search for a new lead human resources officer. On Wednesday (12/5) Kathleen McCutcheon announced her resignation to human resources employees. Under her leadership, the human resources team has implemented a number of initiatives to strengthen and unify Ohio State's approach to the stewardship of its most valuable assets: its faculty and staff. Kaplan and the human resources team will continue to build on this progress and the search for a new leader will begin immediately.

Wildfires darkening Greenland snowpack, increasing melting

 Arctic wildfires may be increasing the rate of snowpack melting in Greenland. At the American Geophysical Union meeting this week, Jason Box, associate professor of geography at Ohio State, presented images from NASA's Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation satellite, which captured smoke from Arctic fires billowing out over Greenland during the summer of 2012. Soot is an extremely powerful light absorber, Box said. It settles over the ice and captures the sun’s heat.

CABS winter break service announced

During winter break, Thursday (12/13)-Sunday (1/6), CABS will run reduced bus service Monday-Friday, with no service overnight (with the exception of Med Center Express), on the weekends and on university holidays. For more information regarding the CABS winter break service schedule, visit the Transportation & Traffic Management web site at http://ttm.osu.edu/.

First Year Experience is accepting applications for student facilitators for first-year Pre-Enrollment Programs. Undergraduate leadership positions are available for Buckeye Leadership Connection in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Camp Buckeye/Buckeye Adventures, R-LEAD, First Generation Buckeye Leadership Connection, and Leadership Collaborative. The Fellowship of Christian Faculty and Staff Christmas Luncheon: Lessons and Carols will take place Thursday (12/13) from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Faculty Club. Sing and learn about a selection of favorite Christmas Carols, including the history/backgrounds and scripture references of these influential hymns. Linguistics offers summer high school program in July

The Department of Linguistics is offering two sessions of the Summer Linguistics Institute for Youth Scholars, a week-long event designed for high school students interested in the study of language. Sessions will be held on OSU's main campus Sunday (7/7)-Friday (7/12) and Sunday (7/14)-Friday (7/19). Commuter and residential options are available.
