Weinberg awarded 2021 Dannie Heineman Prize

David Weinberg, Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Astronomy, has won the 2021 Dannie Heineman Prize for Astrophysics for his research surrounding modern large-scale astronomical surveys, including the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. He is the second consecutive Ohio State astronomy faculty member to win the award. Christopher Kochanek, professor and Ohio Eminent Scholar in the Department of Astronomy, was awarded the prize in 2020.

Ohio State Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers Managing Stress and Mental Health in the Winter webinar on Jan. 20.The winter months provide some of the biggest challenges to wellness during the year. Spring 2021 Foods for Health seed grants

Foods for Health (FFH) is Ohio State's premier initiative for interdisciplinary research that defines the health impacts of food using modern technology and informatic approaches. FFH is currently seeking proposals from the Ohio State research community for our spring 2021 award cycle. Proposals are expected to support the vision and mission of FFH, foster new collaborations, encourage exploration into novel areas of research and enable the generation of data needed for successful extramural grant applications.

Join the College of Social Work on Jan. 19 noon-1 p.m. for a workshop, “Don't Share That! Information Literacy for Healthier Democracy." As social media consumption becomes even more important in an environment characterized by rapidly evolving global co-occurring crises, how do we wade through, disseminate and engage with information? This workshop will explore the tools and skills needed to determine the quality of information consumed on social media to avoid the risk of spreading (mis)information that is purposefully designed to manipulate views and opinions. 2021 ADNiR Scholars seeking applications

The Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging (CCBBI) recognizes the need for a more diverse body in academia, science and research. CCBBI is proposing the ADNIR Initiative to provide funding for academic and professional development to individuals from underrepresented groups at the undergraduate level interested in pursuing a career in research. CCBBI is now accepting applications from undergraduate students interested in neuroimaging research and committed to issues of enhancing diversity and inclusivity in the community.

Getting around campus

 

Student move-in

Students will be moving into residence halls Jan. 17-24. Neil Avenue will be closed between the Lane Avenue Garage entrance and Lane Avenue daily during this time. Access to the garage will be maintained via Tuttle Park Place to Neil Avenue. Parking lots, garages, loading zones and roadways near residence halls may be busier than normal and traffic delays may occur. Please note that normal parking restrictions still apply.

Brain and Spine Hospital loop closure

Beginning Jan. 19, the east branch of the Brain and Spine Hospital Loop will close permanently to accommodate additional construction of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center affecting Starling-Loving Hall and Fry Hall. Patient and shuttle traffic will be rerouted to the Brain and Spine Hospital as two-way traffic between Fry Hall and Prior Hall, facilitated by traffic control officials. Signage will detour pedestrians.
