15th annual International Scholar Research Exposition

Supported by the Office of Research and the Office of International Affairs, the International Scholar Research Exposition showcases some of the world-class research undertaken by the more than 1,600 international visiting scholars at Ohio State. This year, the exposition will take place online, where 10 scholars will showcase their research through short videos. The videos are available to stream via YouTube.

Grants and funding

 

Funding earned to drive fuel economy improvements

Ohio State has received $5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to optimize fuel economy in connected and automated vehicles. This is Ohio State’s second project to be funded through ARPA-E’s Next-Generation Energy Technologies for Connected and Automated On-Road Vehicles (NEXTCAR) program. Research will be led by Ohio State’s Center for Automotive Research.

Healthy Air, Land and Water: How to Develop, Win and Execute Interdisciplinary Grants for Research

Explore the steps involved in submitting winning grants and what to do once the grant is awarded. Hosted by the Sustainability Institute, this panel discussion on March 30 at 10:30 a.m. will focus on the process involved in submitting proposals, how to find and work with collaborators and how to avoid the usual pitfalls. Led by Jay Martin and Linda Weavers, the session features Pedro Alvarez of Rice University, Berry Lyons with the College of Arts and Sciences and Robyn Wilson of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Do you know any students who would like to learn more about pharmacology and its relationship to health and disease? This event is for them! Pills, Potions and Poisons will take place July 12-16. It is designed for high school students (grades 9-12). Students do not need to be local to Ohio since the program will be held virtually this year.

Advancing Gender Equity in Medicine lecture

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Wexner Medical Center’s Anti-Racism Action Plan leaders, Women in Medicine and Science, the Center for Primary Care Innovation and Transformation in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the College of Medicine’s Black Women in Medicine group have collaborated for a series on intersectionality. The last lecture of the series, offered March 29, is titled “What’s Your Gender Identity Inclusivity Plan?” The discussion will feature Kim Doran, director of Instructional Support Services and chief of staff in the Student Athlete Support Services office.

The Ohio State Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers mental health awareness workshop for managers on April 14. Register for a two-hour workshop designed for managers to gain awareness and understanding about mental health in the work place. Learn the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and substance abuse; how to identify warning signs of suicide; how to support coworkers who may be experiencing mental health difficulties; and where to find treatment and resources. Positions are open for the FY22 term (July 2021 to June 2022) in events, program planning, communications, mentorship, assessment and more. Vice chair positions will serve a two-year term (July 2021 to June 2023). During the second year, vice chairs will roll into the chair position of the supporting role. Applications are due tomorrow.
