Join the COVID-19 virtual town hall on Monday

Remember to register for the university-wide COVID-19 virtual town hall on Monday, April 12, at 5:30 p.m. The discussion will include information on fall campus reactivation plans, updates about the state of the pandemic and vaccination progress as well as time for questions. Participants should register using their university email address and are encouraged to submit questions in advance. The registration link is here. The town hall will be recorded and posted on the Safe and Healthy Buckeyes website.

The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community has endured an alarming increase in anti-Asian racism and is still reeling from the horrific killings in Georgia targeting Asian women. APIDA individuals in the College of Arts and Sciences weigh in on Asian racism in the United States and what is being done to confront it.

Global One Health initiative awarded $5.61 million

The Global One Health initiative was awarded $5.61 million in funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and bolster Ethiopia’s public health system for small- and large-scale disease outbreaks and emergencies. As new diseases emerge, the need for health system preparedness across the world is vital for global health. The project will take place over the next five years in partnership with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, in-country Regional Health Bureaus and with participation from different colleges at Ohio State.

President Johnson discusses leadership in challenging times

Ohio State President Kristina M. Johnson is no stranger to leading in tumultuous times. President Johnson competed for a spot in the Olympics, advised the Obama administration during one of the largest marine oil spills in history and started leading the university in the middle of a deadly pandemic.

Sustaining diverse backgrounds in the classroom

Students’ diverse prior experiences and knowledge can greatly enhance the learning that takes place in our classes. However, it can seem difficult to challenge inequalities in the classroom and build bridges between students’ identities and the course content. In this workshop on April 14, consultants from Writing Across the Curriculum will discuss inclusive teaching strategies you can apply to raise students’ critical consciousness and affirm the valuable resources diverse writers bring into the classroom. They will introduce approaches for sustaining students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds as writers and discuss how to make writing assignments more directly relevant to and reflective of our students.

Conversation with Judy Batalion, 'The Light of Days'

A chance to learn more about one of the most important stories of World War II. 'The Light of Days' by Judy Batalion is a spectacular, searing history that brings to light the extraordinary accomplishments of brave Jewish women who became resistance fighters. Author Judy Batalion will be in conversation with Robert C. Holub, Ohio Eminent Scholar and chair of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Ohio State, on April 14. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on the day of the program.

School of Music virtual spring visit day

Join the School of Music for a virtual spring visit on April 17. High school students curious about majoring in music are invited to meet School of Music faculty, learn about the application process and attend sessions on special topics including music education, School of Music ensembles, preparing for college music theory, tips on auditioning and more. Parking restrictions at Carmack 1

From April 11-23, parking restrictions will be in place at Carmack 1 for utility work to support infrastructure improvements on West Campus.

Olentangy Greenway Trail impact

Beginning April 9 early morning, anticipate additional construction traffic on Cannon Dr. north of the Wexner Medical Center Garage. Signage will detour Olentangy Greenway Trail pedestrians and cyclists to use the west section of the trail near the river.

Crane Lift at Parks Hall

On April 12, the SE corner of Parks Hall will be blocked for a crane lift. Signage will detour pedestrians. ADA access on the north side of the building and parking at the Biological Sciences Building will be maintained.
