DNA robots designed in minutes instead of days

Someday, scientists believe, tiny DNA-based robots and other nanodevices will deliver medicine inside our bodies, detect the presence of deadly pathogens and help manufacture increasingly smaller electronics. Researchers took a big step toward that future by developing a new tool that can design much more complex DNA robots and nanodevices than were ever possible before in a fraction of the time.

Snake venom evolved to target just the right prey

Like wine, some snake venom is more complex than others. It all depends on the meal it is paired with. New research can tell us why. The study shows that evolutionary diversity among prey – say, a combination of mice, turtles and fish – has been the key driver of venom complexity in rattlesnakes, copperheads and other North American pit vipers.

New Physical Access and Management Control policy

Following a university-wide review, Ohio State has adopted a new Physical Access Management and Control policy that establishes a more comprehensive and coordinated management of physical access across the university enterprise. All authorized key signers should familiarize themselves with the new policy that makes them responsible for ensuring the policy is followed correctly.

Insurance isn’t enough for women at high risk of breast cancer

Women at high risk of breast cancer face cost-associated barriers to care even when they have health insurance, a new study from the College of Public Health has found, prompting researchers to call for more transparency and policies to eliminate financial obstacles to catching cancer early and saving lives.

Office of Student Life named one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs

Ohio State’s Office of Student Life has again been named one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. This is the seventh year in a row for this recognition. With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment, the research uses a web-based survey approach to examine categories including family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities. College of Public Health Opioid Seed Grant and Addiction Innovation Fund

The College of Public Health and the Addiction Innovation Fund announces a seed grant opportunity for research to address the addiction and opioid overdose crises in Ohio. Requirements are the principal investigator must be from Ohio State; the project timelines must not exceed 12 months; and the maximum award is $50,000. A brief letter of intent is due May 14 at 5 p.m.

WOSU Public Media exceeds campaign goal

WOSU Public Media has surpassed its $12 million goal to support its new headquarters as part of the 15+HIGH project. The new five-floor building, located just across the street from Ohio State's campus, will include radio and television studios and community spaces for events.
