The 2018 American Heart Association Heart Walk will take place at McFerson Commons on Saturday (8/25). As a celebration of the 25th Heart Walk Anniversary, each walker is encouraged to donate $25. Captains and walkers have the great opportunity to get others involved, to fundraise with a team and raise awareness in their communities. Our partnership with the American Heart Association helps us to improve the health of those we serve. Participants who sign up before Monday (8/17) will receive the team Ohio State T-shirt for Free! Affordability commitment to regional campuses
Under an expansion of the Buckeye Opportunity Program, the university will increase financial support for low- and moderate-income Ohio students on the university’s five regional campuses. Starting in spring 2019, the university will commit up to $3 million a year in additional financial aid to cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for regional campus students who are from Ohio, qualify for federal Pell Grants, have successfully started their college career by earning 12 credit hours and have initiated or completed a student-success course. The program begins this fall.

Heart surgeon partners with Dublin students
Dr. Peter Lee, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital, has a serious interest in space travel and its effects on the body. Through a grant from NASA, he shared that passion for space travel with 85 students at Eli Pinney Elementary School in Dublin. He led the students of Team JELLIES (Jellyfish Experiment to Learn about Life in the Environment of Space) through a 12-week program on scientific process, space, engineering, microgravity and what happens to the human body in space. The program includes a student-designed experiment that will fly to space this fall aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard sub-orbital rocket.

Getting around campus
SR-315 on-ramp closure, Cannon Drive, Neil Avenue
Multiple construction projects will have an impact on vehicles and pedestrians in and around the medical center area. The Monday (6/11) closure of the SR-315 on ramp at 12th Avenue, as well as Cannon Drive, south of Herrick Drive, will limit vehicular traffic and detour shuttle routes. Fencing will be installed along Neil Avenue in early June to shift pedestrian traffic to the east.
