Executive Vice President and Provost Bruce A. McPheron announced the reappointment of Trevor Brown, PhD, for a second term as dean of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. His leadership of a collaborative effort spanning across the faculty, staff, students, alumni and university leaders enabled the transition of the Glenn School to the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

Did you know you can look up thousands of safety data sheets on the EHS website? A safety data sheet (SDS) provides important safety information regarding specific chemicals, chemical compounds and chemical mixtures. A SDS should be available for reference in any area where chemicals are being used or stored. A link on the EHS website will navigate the user to the Chemwatch chemical management system, where you can enter the desired chemical, compound or mixture.

University Conduct Board applications

The senior vice president for student life appoints 15 faculty and staff members to the University Conduct Board (UCB), which hears allegations of non-academic violations of the Code of Student Conduct. By providing students with a fair hearing, UCB members perform a valuable service by upholding the university’s standards in a manner that demonstrates both civility and care for the entire university community. Faculty and staff seeking to serve on the UCB should discuss the opportunity with their department chair or supervisor and complete the application before Friday (7/13).

Awards and recognition

Mitsch receives first Odum award story

Professor Emeritus of Environment and Natural Resources and founding director of the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park Bill Mitsch received the first Odum award for Ecological Engineering Excellence from the American Ecological Engineering Society (AEES) at its 18th annual meeting in Houston in June. The meeting also featured the return of 10 current or past AEES presidents, including Mitsch, who started AEES at Ohio State in 2000. The Odum award is named for the late professors H.T. Odum of University of Florida and Eugene Odum of University of Georgia, brothers and preeminent pioneers in the field of ecology.
