Sponsor Wex Drive-In closes the season with "The Fifth Element."

Tomorrow (8/14) at sunset, the Wexner Center for the Arts concludes the Wex Drive-In outdoor screening series for the summer with the fantastically over-the-top sci-fi action film The Fifth Element. Bring a blanket or chair and come out early to the Wex Plaza for a fun movie and food and drinks from local favorites Hai Poké, Seventh Son Brewing and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

Request for third-party testimony

Ohio State's Office of Educator Preparation will host an accreditation visit by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation in early December. Graduates, current or former faculty members and employers of graduates are invited to submit third-party comments about programs in the colleges of Education and Human Ecology, Arts and Sciences, Social Work and Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Comments are accepted until Sunday (10/21).

Munroe named interim chair, Department of Geography story

Darla Munroe specializes in human-environment geography and land change, focusing on the interactions between people and their environments at a landscape level. She has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Geography. She researches how forests are impacted by changes in land-use systems such as urban conversion and shifts in agricultural production patterns.

New in CarmenCanvas

There are several enhancements in the works for CarmenCanvas, as well as for other programs designed to improve the teaching and learning experience at Ohio State. Integrated software such as Mediasite and Turnitin will see improvements; new services for lab notes and academic integrity have been launched; and incoming freshmen will be equipped with new technology.

Expecting a baby?

The OSU Health Plan and YP4H encourage expectant parents with OSU Health Plan insurance to join the Buckeye Baby program. In addition to educational programs and lactation support, the program consists of four live webinar-based discussions that review pregnancy-related topics, offering support from early pregnancy through delivery and post-partum. Ask questions and share ideas with other expecting parents. Individual telephonic sessions are available as needed with a RN and Health Coach/Dietitian. Next series begins on Tuesday (9/4). Leadership Research Grant Program

The Fisher Leadership Initiative at Fisher College of Business is accepting proposals for its second annual Leadership Research Grant Program. Researchers from colleges and units across Ohio State are invited to submit projects for consideration. The Fisher Leadership Initiative intends to award $50,000 in grants to eligible projects. The deadline to apply is Friday (9/14).

Scrub sale for all staff

In need of new scrubs? Want to raise money for a good cause? If so, come to the Affordable Uniform Scrub Sale Thursday (8/16) and Friday (8/17) in the Ross Auditorium Lobby. On Thursday, the sale is 9 a.m.-6 p.m. On Friday, the sale is 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Team Ohio State at the 2018 American Heart Association Heart Walk. Employees may purchase apparel through payroll deduction with staff badges.

The benefits and retirement webinars for new hires will be presented by HR benefits consultants Tuesday (8/21) and Wednesday (8/22). Current employees who are newly eligible for benefits also are invited to attend. During these sessions, benefits consultants compare medical plan options, review health benefits and explain retirement choices. Participants can ask questions in real time during the webinars.

Getting around campus

Oval fencing change to allow additional pedestrian access

Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), ENGIE Services and Ohio State continue utility work underneath The Oval to support nearby building heating and hot water. In anticipation of autumn semester, a portion of fencing was removed to allow pedestrians to use the long walk to travel east and west through the center of The Oval. Safety remains a top priority and a majority of construction fences will remain in place to enhance safety into November. Pedestrians need to plan ahead and expect delays.
