Free safety devices for students

The Office of Student Life's Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services offers students free window and door alarms and light timers to increase their home security. Deterrence tools can play a big role in helping to prevent crimes. Access to the devices is easy. Students fill out a simple form and arrange a time to pick up the devices at the Ohio Union.

InFACT and CDFA study on Ohio's Food Systems

The Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (InFACT) and the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) have announced an unprecedented collaboration to study the use of economic development finance tools for new investment in food systems throughout the state of Ohio. Rejuvenated food systems will serve constituents all along the supply chain, from farmers to consumers, in support of Ohio State's land-grant mission and the research objectives of the university.

Classified Civil Service changes in HR policy revisions

Some of Ohio State’s Rules for Classified Civil Service (CCS) are being updated to align with the university’s implementation of Workday and recent HR policy revisions. Over the past year, multiple HR policies went through the official revision process and a university-wide feedback period. The changes to the CCS rules will align the language of the revised policies and rules, and update terminology related to Workday. The updated CCS rules will be presented to the Ohio State Board of Trustees for approval on Nov. 19.

Diversity efforts in health sciences colleges praised

The Ohio State University Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Optometry and Veterinary Medicine are being honored for their outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. These four programs have again received the INSIGHT into Diversity magazine 2020 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. INSIGHT into Diversity magazine is the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

Gallego-Perez receives NIH/NIDDK award

Congratulations to Daniel Gallego-Perez, assistant professor, Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Surgery on recently receiving one year of pilot funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH/NIDDK). He was awarded $736k for his proposal submitted to the Catalyst-DEMD program entitled “Non-viral modulation of cutaneous tissue plasticity as a therapy for diabetes.”

The intersectionality of blackness and queerness

Black people who are also members of the LGBTQ+ community (broadly referred to here as “Queer”) have unique experiences because they belong to multiple marginalized social identity groups. Black Queer people face unique challenges because their identities intersect in complex ways. This panel discussion will feature a diverse group of Black Queer community leaders and will be moderated by local educator and activist, Izetta Nicole. This event is free and open to all Ohio State students, staff and faculty.
