Ohio Congressional Archives changes name

The Ohio Congressional Archives has collected, preserved and provided access to the unique records of Ohio members of the U.S. Congress for years. The papers of Senator John Glenn served as the core collection of the archives, but has grown to include 10 collections serving researchers at Ohio State and worldwide. Effective immediately, the archives will be known as the Ohio Public Policy Archives (OPPA). This name change represents the archives’ growing research and instructional relationship with the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and new collection growth priorities.

Cooling-to-heating transition

The university is transitioning from cooling to heating, which can lead to customer inquiries about buildings being too hot or too cold, especially if weather variations cause unanticipated fluctuations to interior temperatures. We appreciate your patience as we perform these necessary tasks. FOD also is in the process of winterizing all university fire hydrants, as mandated by the City of Columbus. If you see anyone using a fire hydrant, please notify Service2Facilities at 614-292-HELP.

2020 Mistletoe Research Fellowships

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs has announced that Nicole A. Pfiester Latham and Jay Srinivasan are among the recipients of the 2020 Mistletoe Research Fellowships. They are postdoctoral scholars in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, respectively. This was the first year that Ohio State’s postdoctoral scholars had the opportunity to participate. Only 12 of the usual 36 fellowships were awarded due to the pandemic.

New grant extends the work of the Virtual Lab School

Sarah Lang, College of Education and Human Ecology, and Cynthia Buettner, received a $1.98 million grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture. This grant permits them to continue their leadership of the Virtual Lab School (VLS), a comprehensive professional development system for childcare professionals and a collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense.

Lunch and Learn: Utilizing Mindfulness to Keep Calm

Are you interested in learning practical ways to utilize mindfulness to avoid catastrophizing during COVID-19? Join Maryanna Klatt, PhD, on Oct. 30 at noon and learn the basic tenets of mindfulness followed by a 20 minute practice session as a way to decompress and re-orient yourself to the stresses and the opportunities within the current cultural environment. ArcGIS StoryMaps Showcase

Students, faculty and staff are invited to submit a story map to showcase their work and highlight the variety of mapping and GIS projects happening across our institution. If you or a student has a project to be highlighted, consider submitting to the StoryMap Showcase. Submissions could be viewed across multiple academic institutions and by potential employers in the Ohio area. Your story map can be based on a research project, class assignment or original concept. Submit your entry by Nov. 13.

TDAI Speaker Series kicks off

The TDAI Speaker Series features a diverse range of lectures from TDAI innovators and leading data experts from around the globe. The first speaker is Karen Bakker, a research chair and professor at the University of British Columbia, who will share her expertise on environmental governance, innovation and digital technologies.
