When fathers exercise, children are healthier, even as adults

In a new study led by Kristin Stanford, a physiology and cell biology researcher with the College of Medicine at the Wexner Medical Center, paternal exercise had a significant impact on the metabolic health of offspring well into their adulthood. Recent studies have linked development of type 2 diabetes and impaired metabolic health to the parents’ poor diet, and there is increasing evidence that fathers play an important role in obesity and metabolic programming of their offspring.

Interdisciplinary connections

On Thursday (11/9) and Friday (11/10), participants from across Ohio State and central Ohio will gather for the Pedagogy of Civic Practice and Public Performance Conference to discuss how we teach and practice engaging with the community and how theater artists can be instrumental in those efforts. Enhancing recognition of women staff and faculty

One focus of Ohio State’s President and Provost’s Council on Women (PPCW) is enhancing recognition of women staff and faculty on campus. PPCW encourages members of the university community to nominate qualified applicants, including women and underrepresented individuals, for university awards.

One of the largest Thanksgiving Day dinners on a college campus, the event is held on Thursday (11/22) in the Archie Griffin Ballroom at the Ohio Union. Getting around campus

Oval construction nearing completion

Utility work underneath The Oval is nearing completion. By mid-November, fences will be reduced and all walkways will be open to pedestrians. Temporary fencing and post-and-rope will remain into the spring to protect grass impacted by construction. Everyone is asked to stay off the turf in impacted areas while we restore the campus landmark.

Planning your fall event or meeting? Bring family, friends or entertain guests at Pre-Game at Fisher located at The Blackwell Inn. Pre-Game festivities start 3 hours prior to each home game kick-off in the ballroom and patio. Enjoy a delicious buffet, special appearances by the Ohio State cheerleaders and music by the Buckeye Tailgaters. Then head over to the Ohio Stadium to cheer on your Buckeyes!
