This Saturday’s Ohio State football game – let’s TALK. Join The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Ohio State's Harding Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in starting the conversation to end suicide silence. Saturday’s game against Purdue will feature our TALK to #EndSuicideSilence campaign. Together, we can learn to talk about suicide so that no one feels alone and can get the help they need. Stop by the OSUWMC booth at Fan Fest, before the game for free giveaways and more importantly, to learn how to TALK to end suicide silence.

Medical research reduces deaths in areas where it is created

A new study provides a novel way of showing that medical research does indeed save lives, starting in the local communities where it is produced. The results showed that a 1% increase in publications on a specific disease produced by local researchers reduces the mortality rate for that disease in the area by 0.35%.

Slideshow: Arts District

Hanging and painting drywall, pouring terrazzo floors and finishing exterior curtain walls are among the construction tasks being completed this month at the Timashev Family Music Building. Part of the larger Arts District project, it is scheduled to open in March 2022 and crews are close to putting the finishing touches on the School of Music’s new home. Next door, work continues on the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Arts, set to open in February 2023.

Changing Team chat retention times

On Dec. 3, we will make updates to retention times for Microsoft Teams individual and group (channel) chats to align them with university retention policy and compliance. There is no expiration time on a Team or the data (files) contained within a Team. This will not change.

Join National Science Foundation director at Ohio State

Faculty, staff and students are invited to join Sethuraman Panchanathan as he discusses the future of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and provides insights into NSF’s role in supporting people and basic research to create knowledge that transforms science and technology. Following his presentation, he will answer questions in a moderated format led by Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska, vice president from the Office of Knowledge. Skeletor, poetry, hand-made art: quaranzines tell COVID stories

In spring 2020, when much of the nation was locked down because of COVID-19, Jolie Braun, curator of modern literature and manuscripts for Ohio State Libraries, began noticing that people were telling the stories of their quarantine experiences in a distinctive way: through one-off or small-batch, self-produced zines. Braun started gathering them. By the beginning of November, Ohio State Libraries had amassed a collection of nearly 90 COVID zines from around the world.

Leadership and Empathy Workshop. Empathy allows us to lead by understanding our coworkers’ thoughts, feelings, and actions. Congratulations to the team on 10 East Doan for receiving the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) PRISM award. The Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board and AMSN give the award to recognize exceptional nursing practice, leadership and outcomes in hospital medical-surgical units. The award stands for Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Med-surg.

Donate to Toys for Tots

Community members are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys to support the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots campaign. Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety will host a drive-through event to collect donations curbside Dec. 9, 7-10 a.m., in front of Blankenship Hall (901 Woody Hayes Drive). If you cannot make the drive-through event, you can drop your toys in one of the donation boxes inside Blankenship Hall or at S128 Rhodes Hall by Dec. 10.

Getting around campus

 

Veterans Day CABS service

In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, CABS will run reduced service Nov. 11. The West Campus route and paratransit will operate on the weekend schedule and CABS On-Demand will provide regular service. All other routes will not run during this time.

CABS On-Demand service

CABS On-Demand provides daytime transportation between areas west of Olentangy River and three campus bus stops: RPAC, Baker Systems and Watts Hall. Overnight, the service provides transportation between campus buildings. Students, faculty and staff can download the “TripShot” app via the Ohio State app for scheduling and real-time tracking.
