Light Up the Lake is a signature event each year to bring together the Ohio State community and brighten Mirror Lake District during the wintertime. There will be several student group performances as well as a dynamic light show followed by attendees joining in a rendition of "Carmen Ohio."

National security simulation prepares students to work in government and media

Suppose that on Nov. 5, 2021, there had been a terrorist attack at a courthouse in Medina, Ohio, a ransomware cyber attack that shut down Google Voice services and armed extremist militias battling in Columbus. The next day, there was a new strain of COVID detected, an international security crisis between NATO and Russia in the Arctic and a nuclear plant in Ohio was on the fritz. While it's true that this didn’t happen in the real world, it did occur during Ohio State’s National Security Simulation supported by the Mershon Center.

Giving social support to others may boost your health

When it comes to your health, being willing to give social support to your spouse, friends and family may be just as important as receiving assistance, a new study suggests. While researchers have long thought that receiving social support from others is a key to health, results from studies have shown mixed results. So researchers from Ohio State decided to see if giving support may also play an important role in health.

Effective meeting facilitation workshop. Have you ever left a meeting where the group’s decision still didn’t feel right or where everyone still wasn’t on the same page? This training on Dec. 9, with Jera Niewoehner-Green, will provide you techniques for helping groups work through thinking and decision making of important ideas and difficult conversations. You will learn how to be effective at facilitating people through processes that provide useful information and data in making decisions and developing ownership over those decisions. More info.

Ohio State SACNAS Chapter members recognized at national conference

During the 2021 annual SACNAS conference this October, members of the Ohio State SACNAS Chapter participated by giving oral and poster presentations about their research as well as a panel discussion for chapter advisors about how the chapter has been successful in keeping the organization active.

Student Life Recreational Sports Free Week

Student Life Recreational Sports is hosting Free Week for Ohio State faculty and staff Nov. 29 through Dec. 6. All five indoor facilities and the outdoor parks are available for faculty and staff recreation during regular operating hours. Free group fitness classes and fitness equipment orientations also are available to Free Week participants. Please note masks are always required at the facilities except when swimming.

Getting around campus

 

Road closures, CABS impacts for Turkey Trot

The Turkey Trot will take place on Nov. 25. Rolling closures will occur on several roads, including portions of Lane Avenue, Kenny Road, Woody Hayes Drive, Ives Drive, Tuttle Park Place and Cannon Drive from approximately 7:30-11 a.m. CABS will not be running at this time as part of the Thanksgiving holiday service hours.
