Ohio State, SWACO test waste management solutions

In a new collaboration, Ohio State and SWACO will share expertise and resources to divert waste from the landfill. Using Ohio State’s campus as a living laboratory to test ideas — from education and behavioral change to new recycling technologies — they aim to scale up successful strategies across central Ohio. Projects will facilitate faculty research and provide opportunities for our students to tackle sustainability problems on Ohio State’s campus.

Corporate fraud may lead to neighborhood financial crimes

After a major corporate fraud case hits a city, financially motivated neighborhood crimes like robbery and theft increase in the area, a new study suggests. Researchers from Ohio State and Indiana University found the revelation of corporate accounting misconduct is linked to about a 2.3% increase in local financially motivated crimes in the following year.

Last week to submit eTravel requests and life event changes

In preparation for the move to Workday, deadlines have been set for various business transactions in current systems. Please note that the last day to submit eTravel requests is Dec. 7, and all travel requests should be approved by Dec. 11. Additionally, the last day to submit life event changes and update benefits coverage is Dec 4. A full list of important dates is posted on the Workday calendar.

DEPC accepting proposals for marijuana research grant

The Drug Enforcement and Policy Center (DEPC) invites researchers from universities and independent research centers in the United States to submit proposals for funded research focused on implementation and policy impacts of marijuana legalization. Grants up to $50,000 are available. First-round submissions are due Jan. 11.

Workshop on teaching hybrid courses

Explore design principles for hybrid courses that help students meet learning outcomes in effective and engaging ways at Instructional Approaches to Hybrid Courses, a free online workshop from the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. Examine tools for supporting rich synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences in both face-to-face and online components of a course. Work with fellow participants to share ideas on teaching hybrid courses and strategize potential approaches.

Spring Ethics Circle Fellowship program

CEHV's Ethics Circle program invites faculty, postdocs, graduate students and staff to apply. Through mentorship and conversations, participants acquire tools to address ethical challenges in their fields. Completion results in a $500 fellowship and, for fellows who participate to enhance teaching, a Teaching Ethics and Human Values endorsement.
