35th Annual Hayes Graduate Research Forum

Do you have research you’d like to share? The 35th Hayes Graduate Research Forum will be held April 9. Abstract submissions are being accepted now through Jan. 15. Cash prizes, totaling more than $14,000, will be awarded to the top-judged presentations in each academic area.

2020 Status Report on Women

As 2020 comes to an end, The Women's Place (TWP) concludes its 20th anniversary celebration. This year, TWP’s Status Report on Women at Ohio State celebrates this anniversary by reflecting on TWP’s part in creating a more equitable culture and advancing women at the university. The report also offers comparative data to evaluate women’s employment and promotion at the university over the last 20 years, while highlighting how everyone at Ohio State can contribute to culture change.

Dependent Tuition Assistance enrollment reminder

The shutdown of Peoplesoft in advance of the Workday launch will affect access to Employee Self Service (ESS). The end of business on Dec. 11 is the last day employees can use ESS for enrolling in Dependent Tuition Assistance (DTA) for spring semester 2021 until the launch of Workday. You are strongly encouraged to enroll in DTA before Dec. 11 to avoid a delay in the assistance being applied to a student’s statement of account. To enroll in DTA during the downtime, employees will need to complete the paper form and submit it to HR Connection.

Pandemic reveals cracks in global supply chains

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many Americans were shocked at the sight of empty shelves in stores as global supply chains sputtered to keep up with the demand for a variety of products. But even the end of the pandemic is unlikely to solve many of the issues with global supply chains, said Benjamin McKean, associate professor of political science at Ohio State.

Ohio State positioned to help central Ohio economy

Ohio State continues to play a critical role in the future growth of the Columbus region. Ohio State President Kristina M. Johnson and Grace Wang, executive vice president for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Enterprise, addressed a virtual audience as part of the 2020 Economic Development 411 event regarding challenges and opportunities for the central Ohio area. President Johnson said building a pipeline of talent to work and innovate in Ohio is at the core of the university’s mission.

Labeling posts as ads draws attention

Social media influencers vaping glamorously into their social media feeds are often not doing so for free. New research suggests that calling out their pay-to-play posts as advertisements in an obvious way might have an impact on young people. A study of 200 teens and young adults used eye-tracking technology to determine that tagging vaping-related influencer Instagram posts with #ad or #sponsored was effective in grabbing attention.
