Ohio State Lima to welcome next dean, director

Timothy A. Rehner, PhD, MSW, ACSW, will serve as the dean and director of The Ohio State University at Lima. Subject to approval by the Board of Trustees, his appointment is effective April 1. He holds a Distinguished Professorship and is the director of the School of Social Work and director of Caribbean Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi.

According to a new survey conducted by The Risk Institute at Ohio State, Fisher College of Business, 33 percent of participants rate their cybersecurity risk as “extremely high,” and a full 28 percent reported being an actual victim of a cyberattack. The research was highlighted in a recent article by TotalRetail magazine.

Lal receives World Soil Prize

Rattan Lal, Distinguished University Professor of Soil Science, School of Environment and Natural Resources, received the Glinka World Soil Prize in a ceremony at the Rome headquarters of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization World Soil Day (12/5). The award is considered the highest honor in the soil science profession. Lal directs the school’s Carbon Management and Sequestration Center.

H.O.P.E. (Helping Others through Peer Experiences) is a peer support program open to patients and caregivers at The James. The program matches patients or caregivers looking to connect with someone who has had a similar experience with cancer. We are accepting applications for individuals interested in receiving or providing peer support in the program. 

Dirty air now could harm hearts of offspring later

A parent’s exposure to dirty air before conception might spell heart trouble for the next generation, a new study suggests. Wondering about the possible health risks for children of people routinely exposed to highly polluted air, including soldiers and residents of some of the world’s largest cities, Ohio State researchers studied the effects of dirty air on mice.
