APLU honors four Ohio State faculty

Twenty-five Fellows of the Food Systems Leadership Institute were honored during the virtual annual meeting of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). Four Ohio State leaders recognized in the ceremony were Sheryl Barringer, Elena Irwin, Dr. Stefan Niewiesk and Shannon Washburn.

Soil scientist honored for increasing global food production

Rattan Lal, a Distinguished University Professor of soil science in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, has received a Canadian-based Arrell Global Food Innovation Award for global work that has restored soil health, boosted food production and helped to fight climate change.

Applications are open for the annual OSEP awards

In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners, the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for proposals that promote interdisciplinary and community collaboration. Priority will be given to the following areas: sustainability, leadership development and arts/humanities. Faculty, staff and students may apply. Proposals are due Jan. 29.

Greenhouse management workshop

Growing ornamental and food crops in a controlled environment requires careful monitoring of plant’s physical and physiological aspects. This three-day virtual workshop will address the fundamentals of greenhouse management, from understanding water and nutrient needs to pest and disease control. Attendees will learn about the latest in plant monitoring tools.
