One type of brain cell may invite Alzheimer’s

Better tactics for detecting, preventing and treating Alzheimer’s disease depend on a clearer understanding of cellular-level changes in the minds of patients. A new study, co-led by Ohio State's Hongiun "Harry" Fu, has uncovered novel details about excitatory neurons that are more vulnerable to accumulations of abnormal tau protein — which is increasingly being implicated in Alzheimer’s disease. The study has the potential to one day lead to targeted treatment.

Peer sponsors help veteran students succeed at Ohio State

After a six-year career in the Air Force, Hannah Rodas was looking to begin the next step in her life — and it started in higher education. She knew feeling overwhelmed was a common experience among the more than 1,800 current veterans, dependents, active duty, National Guard and reserve members who are undergraduate and graduate students at Ohio State. Rodas became a peer sponsor in the Peer 2 Peer Program to help veteran students.
