ADA elevator upgrades to 42 campus buildings start April 13A six-phase effort to upgrade the accessibility of campus elevators for faculty, staff and students gets underway on April 13. The project, scheduled for completion Nov.10, will improve 58 elevators located in 42 buildings on the Columbus campus. Millar Elevator Service Company will be modifying and installing new equipment so the elevators will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Total cost of the project is $317,644. The Department of Physical Facilities is asking for help in notifying faculty, staff and students, especially those that must use the elevators to get to and from their offices or classrooms. Buildings having more than one elevator will only have one taken out of service at a time. Depending on the building you are in, you may be able to reach your destination through an attached building's elevator, according to David Sweet, marketing/communications administrator in the Department of Physical Facilities. Buildings involved in phase one of the project include Weigel Hall, Archer House, Hitchcock Hall, Maintenance Building, Kottman Hall, Allied Medical, and Goss Lab. The last of the buildings, Goss Lab, will be completed May 20. Additional details are available on the University Engineer's Web site at www.physfac.ohio-state.edu/ueo.htm. Questions and concerns about the upgrades can be directed to the Physical Facilities Service Center at 292-6158.
