Each month staff in the Office of University Relations report on Ohio State research and connect reporters with experts across the University. They then monitor articles that mention Ohio State in the 50 largest U.S. and select world media markets. The dozens of articles each month are just one indication of the high profile the University enjoys in the national media.

Stephen Cecchetti, professor of economics, discussed in several recent articles why the United States must make monetary policy less dependent on Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan in order to ensure stability when he departs. Coverage included: Die Welt (German newspaper), Dec. 4; Il Sole (Italian newspaper) and Kauppalehti (Finnish newspaper), Dec. 8; the Financial Times, Jan. 6 and Jan. 11; London Independent, Jan. 9; and Yomiuri Shimbun (Japanese newspaper), Jan. 17.

Robert McMahon, associate professor of horticulture, was quoted in the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Jan. 8, about how houseplants can help brighten a room, improve air quality and possibly help people be more productive.

Roger Blackwell, professor of marketing, was quoted in a Jan. 10 Scripps Howard News Service article about how the beef industry is now catching up to poultry producers in creating "case-ready" products that are easy for consumers to buy and prepare.

Ruth Colker, professor of law, was interviewed on National Public Radio recently. For the Jan. 11 "All Things Considered," Colker spoke about a new U.S. Supreme Court decision that further elevated state rights over the power of Congress to legislate for the whole country at one time. She said the decision was "an enormous, enormous victory for state rights advocates."
