Notables

Atwell Hall

The School of Allied Medical Professions Building has been renamed to honor the school's first director, Robert J. Atwell.

Atwell was chief of medical services at the Ohio Tuberculosis Hospital in 1966 when he was recruited to OSU to develop the proposed school. He retired as director in 1983.

Atwell coordinated efforts to seek federal money and approval for the building that will bear his name, which was completed in 1971.

By 1978, the school had developed five undergraduate and two master's-level academic programs and a faculty of 60. Today, Robert J. Atwell Hall houses 180 faculty, eight undergraduate programs and two graduate-level academic programs.
