William A. Jensen, Plant Biology, received the Botanical Society of America, Charles E. Bessy Award in recognition of excellence in the teaching of botany and leadership in botanical education, 1999.

Thomas Kasulis, Comparative Studies in the Humanities, was awarded a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities for his project "A Historical Narrative of Japanese Philosophy (650-1100 C.E.)."

Steve Keiser, Linguistics, was named an Ohio Bicentennial Legacy Scholar by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission, 1999.

Thomas E. Reilley, Anesthesiology, received the John L. Robinson Award for outstanding teaching by a faculty member outside surgery from chief residents in general surgery.

Steven Reiss, Psychology and Psychiatry, received the Director's Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Institute on Dual Diagnosis at its annual conference, Chapel Hill, N.C., July 1999.

Michael Sherman and Mary O'Sullivan, Physical Activity and Educational Services, were inducted as fellows in the American Academy of Kinesiology Physical Education.

Daniel R. Vig, General Surgery, received the award for outstanding teaching by a resident from surgical students.

Carl Winfield, Center for Wellness and Prevention, was recertified as a diplomate in the American Board of Family Practice, August 1999.

Sandia Wu, Dermatology, received a mentorship award from the Women's Dermatologic Society to study patch testing with Dr. Fran Storrs, Oregon Health Services university.
