Coffey to deliver Block LectureDonald S. Coffey, urology professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will present the Block Lecture, "New Concepts in Cancer," at 8 a.m. Feb. 22 in 518 James Auditorium. The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute will honor Coffey with the Herbert and Maxine Block Memorial Lectureship Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cancer. Coffey, past president of the American Association for Cancer Research and former deputy director of the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center, has earned numerous national and international awards for his research. P-12 Project focus of roundtable Feb. 13The University's P-12 Project will be the focus of the Feb. 13 Outreach and Engagement Roundtable, to meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Stecker Lounge of the Ohio Union. Daryl Siedentop, director of the P-12 Project, and Heather Ness, director of the Central Ohio Regional Professional Development Center, will lead the discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and network with colleagues from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The discussion beginning at noon will focus on the role and goals of the P-12 Project and how faculty, staff, students and community members can become involved in this project. Kozol to keynote reading conferenceJonathan Kozol, educator, social activist and author of eight award-winning books, will be a keynote speaker at the National Reading Recovery Conference Feb. 10-13. Kozol will open the conference at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at the Columbus Convention Center. Nearly 5,000 educators are expected to hear Kozol's speech, "Ordinary Resurrections: Teachers, Tests and Tribulations in the Urban Schools." Tickets are $20. Workshops help with immigration papersThe Office of International Education is offering a series of workshops for administrative staff and faculty who process immigration paperwork for employees who are foreign nationals. Earthquake relief fund establishedOhio State students, faculty and staff with ties to India are part of a local drive for the Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund coordinated by the Federation of Asian Indian Associations-Ohio, an umbrella group of Asian Indian regional and cultural organizations, including the Indian American Association, the Indian Student Association and Association for India's Development at Ohio State. FIA-Ohio hopes to raise up to $100,000 from central Ohioans to aid victims of the disaster, which has claimed at least 20,000 lives.
