Two Ohio State faculty members have been selected as the University Distinguished Lecturers for the 2001-02 academic year.

Arthur Epstein, Distinguished University Professor of Physics and Chemistry, and Ruth Colker, professor of law, each will deliver free, public lectures next year on a topic of their choice that reflects their scholarly expertise.

Epstein also is director of the Center for Materials Science. A faculty member at Ohio State for 15 years, he has increasingly been recognized as an expert in why conducting polymers conduct electricity. Among his best-known inventions is the world's first plastic magnet. He has received the University's Distinguished Scholar Award and is credited for his instrumental role in substantially increasing interdisciplinary research and education at Ohio State.

Colker holds the Heck-Faust Memorial Chair in Constitutional Law. An expert on the Americans with Disabilities Act, she has practiced law in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, taught women's studies at George Washington University, and taught in the law schools of Tulane University and the universities of Toronto and Pittsburgh. An OSU faculty member since 1997, she teaches constitutional law, legislation, sexual orientation and the law, feminist legal theory and disability discrimination.

The University Distinguished Lectureship recognizes outstanding faculty at Ohio State, giving them an opportunity to discuss their work with the community and providing a $5,000 award to support an academic program or project of their choice.
