NotablesImaging directorMichael Knopp, a highly acclaimed researcher at the National Cancer Institute, has been recruited as director of imaging research in the Department of Radiology at the University Medical Center. Knopp, who also was named to the Novartis Pharmaceutical Chair, will lead the development of molecular and targeted imaging applications in neuroimaging, oncology and other specialties. Knopp has published more than 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has received 16 international awards, including the prestigious fellowship award of the European Congress of Radiology in 1997. Davies AwardTim Moore, chief administrative officer at OSU & Harding Behavioral Healthcare and Medicine, has been named the recipient of the first Dr. A. Robert Davies Unity and Excellence Award. The $5,000 award honors an OSU and Harding staff member for their leadership and ability to help others achieve goals that improve behavioral health care services to people in central Ohio. Moore has been instrumental in facilitating the partnership between Ohio State and Harding, and utilizing the combined expertise of both programs to implement and expand behavioral health programs in the community. He also is a pharmacist and clinical professor in the College of Pharmacy. MLA prize awardedJacqueline Jones Royster, professor of English, was awarded the Mina P. Shaughnessy Prize by the Modern Language Association of America for her book, Traces of a Stream: Literacy and Social Change among African American Women. The prize is awarded for an outstanding research publication in the field of teaching English language and literature. The prize, which included a $1,000 award, was one of 16 awards presented during the MLA's annual convention in December. The MLA, the largest and one of the oldest American learned societies in the humanities, promotes the advancement of literary and linguistic studies. |
