Search for onCampus editor in progress

A search is in progress for a new editor of onCampus to replace Emily Caldwell, who served as editor from January 2000 until July 12.

Caldwell joined the Medical Center Communications staff on July 15 as a program director, assisting in media relations for the University's Health System.

During the transition, David Bhaerman, assistant director of internal communications, will serve as interim editor of onCampus. He can be reached at bhaerman.1@osu.edu or 292-0519.

Submissions of news items, especially Memos and Faculty & Staff page information, may be sent via e-mail to oncampus@osu.edu or by fax to 292-1861.

In addition, those with editorial questions can reach onCampus managing editor Randy Gammage at gammage.2@osu.edu or 292-8422, and associate editor Susan Wittstock at wittstock.3@osu.edu or 292-8419. Advertising inquiries should go to Bill Estep, advertising manager, at estep.47@osu.edu or 292-8421.

Vocational project can help provide staff

Ohio State's Department of Neurology is conducting a multidisciplinary Vocational Support Project (VSP) which can provide an opportunity for University departments to hire valuable employees for part-time work -- 10-20 hours per week.

The employees are high functioning individuals with autism spectrum disorders. They can offer employers reliability, attention to detail, willingness to perform repetitive and routine tasks, punctuality, low absenteeism and perseverance in job settings where employers experience high turnover.

The project team is comprised of specialists in neurology, psychology, and vocational and transition services. The team members work with the individuals with ASD to optimize job placement and preparation, to guide employers in matters concerning employment and to provide ongoing job monitoring and follow along support to both consumers and employers.

To hire someone in the project, contact Ashleigh Hillier at 293-6119 or hillier.9@osu.edu.

New Web-based calendar now available

Units submitting calendar items to onCampus are encouraged to use a new Web-based calendar application launched recently by the Office of University Relations.

The calendar, at www.osu.edu/events, is for events units would like to publicize to the University community and to the general public. Items submitted to the calendar will be downloaded by onCampus staff to be placed in the published version of the newspaper.

Those submitting information to the calendar must sign up for an account at the calendar Web site under the "Request an account" button. Those requesting an account will receive e-mail notification when the account is activated.

For more information about the calendar, contact Ted Hattemer at hattemer.1@osu.edu.

Travel policies changed on July 1

The following changes in travel polices will be effective July 1:

  • In-State Lodging -- The reimbursement rate for in-state lodging has been changed from $75.00/night to "reasonable and customary." This change reflects the current policy for out- of- state lodging. Departmental policies with a lower reimbursable amount take precedence over this change.
  • Airline tickets and Travel Services -- Airline tickets and travel agencies services may be purchased with a University Individual Procurement Card. Implementation of this option will be at the discretion of Colleges and VP Offices. For details, visit the Web at www.osupcard.com.
