Vivian Bang performs in Shelf Life by New York theater troupe Big Art Group.

By Lindsey Bostwick

The Wexner Center will bring New York’s Big Art Group to Columbus Jan. 30-Feb. 1 to perform Shelf Life. The play will be presented as a black box show on Mershon Auditorium’s stage.

Big Art Group’s performances resemble shadowplays for a cyber generation -- employing a battery of home video cameras to build a barrage of lo-fi imagery, splitting the audience’s attention between the multiscreen video projections that front the stage and the antics of the actors partially screened behind them. Director and founder Caden Manson created the troupe to push the boundaries of performance through experimentation with structure, medium and process.

This production focuses on America’s obsession with possessions, with a cast of Gen-Yers parodying shop-’til-you-drop consumerism. Tickets are $14 for Wexner Center members, $16 for the general public and $10 for Ohio State students. Call 292-3535 for tickets. For more information on Big Art Group, visit www.bigartgroup.com.
