Douglass, Roberts to deliver diversity lecturesThe President and Provost's Diversity Lecture Series continues this month with two lectures scheduled.

Work/life survey of faculty runs Feb. 10-21A Faculty Survey on Work Environment and Work-Life Quality will take place Feb. 10-21. The survey is co-sponsored by the offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources and is similar in scope to a survey of staff, completed in 2001. All regular faculty will be notified via a postcard a few days before the Web-based survey begins. Participants will be able to log in and complete the 15-minute survey at any point during the 12-day window. The results will be processed by a third-party administrator, to ensure confidentiality. CED offers distance learning workshopThe Office of Continuing Education is offering a free professional development workshop, "Making Student Services Work in Distance Learning," from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 18 in 145 Mount Hall. Janet Kendall and Cliff Moore from the Distance Degree Program at Washington State University will conduct the workshop live via satellite. They will discuss distance support services; key support system design principles and the implications of those principles; essential and optional services; and strategies for making program information applicable to viewer institutions. Freudenburg to deliver Humanities lectureKirk Freudenburg, Department of Greek and Latin, will present "The Metaphors of George W.: The Classics in the Here and Now" in the College of Humanities' third Inaugural Lecture of the year, to be held at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Faculty Club. In his talk, Freudenburg will attempt not only to defuse certain entrenched assumptions about what classical training entails, but will sample a number of ways in which he puts that training to use in the analysis of contemporary politics and culture. Solove Research Institute are hosting "Taking Charge of Money Matters," Feb. 18 in 494 Battelle Building 13, 1375 Perry St. Registration and a light dinner are 5:45-6:30 p.m., with the program running 6:30-8:30 p.m. Presented in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and the Steinhaus Financial Group, the program is designed to help cancer patients and their families understand and take charge of business and financial matters critical to fam-ilies facing life-threatening disease. Women's Place Web survey availableAs part of an evaluation of The Women's Place being conducted by the President's Advisory Council on Women's Issues, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in a Web survey that can be accessed at http://womensplace.osu.edu/. The survey is available for three weeks. The evaluation is designed to assess the effectiveness of The Women's Place in accomplishing its goals and mission, as well as to explore unmet needs to plan for the future, and will include feedback from focus groups and the on-line survey. The Women's Place is a University initiative established in January 2000 to help foster a positive climate for women to succeed and advance within the University. Multicultural Center seeks commissioned artThe Multicultural Center is seeking commissioned artwork to serve as awards to be presented for service with diversity. Artists are asked to design a desk or small wall-sized art piece that would represent the theme of Homeland Security and its relationship to diversity, multiculturalism, and individuals that help, support, work toward diversity equity, advocacy, education and understandings. Judges needed for graduate research forumJudges are being sought for the 2003 Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum, to be held April 26 on the Ohio State campus. Internal faculty judges and external judges are needed to evaluate graduate student research in each of the Graduate School's 10 program areas. Ohio State judges must be members of the graduate faculty. Abstract judges will be asked to select abstracts by Feb. 27 for presentation at the forum. Presentation judges will select the winners of their respective areas on the day of the forum. Photo exhibit offers rare look at BhutanA collection of photographs of Bhutan taken by an Ohio State staff member are on view in "Kingdom in the Clouds: A Photographic Expedition to Bhutan," showing in Hopkins Hall Corridor through Feb. 28. For 12 days in September 2001, Andrew LaMoreaux explored Bhutan, the country sandwiched between India and Nepal. He was one of a handful of people who accompanied National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry, who took the famous cover photo of an Afghan girl in the 1980s. LaMoreaux took 1,200 photographs on his trip, a sampling of which are on view in the exhibit. The collection includes photographs of Bhutan's cities and rural regions, including images of centuries-old monasteries. For details, call 292-5072. Reach 1 program seeks literacy tutorsTutors are being sought for the Office of Human Resources' Reach 1 program to help University employees and their families improve their literacy skills and prepare for the GED exam. Volunteer tutors who can commit to one class per week in the classroom in Raney Commons are needed. Classes are held Monday-Thursday at a variety of times and last approximately 90 minutes. Lecture focuses on Jewish folkloreAmy Horowitz will present "Dissonant Melodies in Search of Resolution: Contemporary Music of Israeli Jews from Islamic Lands" on Feb. 19 as part of the 2002-03 Mann Series on Resetting the Margins of Jewish Folklore. Sponsored by the Melton Center for Jewish Studies, the lecture will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Film/Video Theater of the Wexner Center.
