Rare glimpse into Bhutan

By Andrew LaMoreaux "Kingdom in the Clouds: A Photographic Expedition to Bhutan" is on view in Hopkins Hall Corridor through Feb. 28. The exhibit showcases a collection of photographs taken by Ohio State staff member Andrew LaMoreaux on a recent trip to Bhutan. LaMoreaux, who recently graduated from Ohio State with a B.F.A. in art, was one of a handful of people invited to visit the tiny, landlocked Asian country of Bhutan -- which generally discourages tourism. LaMoreaux has worked for five years at the Huntington Archive of Buddhist and Related Art, a collection at Ohio State of nearly 300,000 original color slides and photos of art, artifacts and architecture from Asia. These are the first Bhutan images for the archive. A group of school children run toward the camera in this image taken in Jakar, Bumthang, Bhutan.
