Gearing up for the jazz festival
The 26th Annual Ohio State University Jazz Festival will kick-off with a performance by the Wayne Shorter Quartet, presented by the Wexner Center, at 8 p.m. April 3 in Weigel Auditorium. The jazz saxophonist and composer came to prominence as a founding member of the ground breaking fusion group Weather Report. Call 292-3535 for tickets. On April 4, the OSU Jazz Ensemble, with New York's Tia Fuller on saxophone, will present a concert at 8 p.m in Weigel Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door. A "Women in Jazz" symposium will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 5 in Hughes Hall. The event includes films on women in jazz and a keynote address by author Leslie Gourse. That evening, Vanessa Rubin and her Trio will perform at 8 p.m. in Weigel Auditorium. Tickets for both events will be available at the door. April 6 will be High School Jazz Band Day in Weigel and Hughes halls. For more information, call 292-2870.
