Web sites answer questions on STRS health care changesHealth care benefits for retired members of the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) will be changing in a number of substantial ways for 2004. The changes, effective Jan. 1, 2004, include increasing the years of service needed for retirees to be eligible for subsidized health care coverage from five years to 15 and eliminating the health care subsidy provided to dependents and spouses. The health care committee of the STRS board approved the changes at its May meeting, following a six month research and review process. The changes were discussed in a May 22 onCampus article and are detailed in the May issue of the STRS member newsletter and on the STRS Web site at www.strsoh.org/healthcare.htm. The Office of Human Resources also has developed a question and answer document discussing the changes compared to the current benefits. It is available on the OHR Web site at http://hr.osu.edu/ohrnews/strs5-03.htm.
NGS American ID cards mailedNew ID cards for all faculty and staff enrolled in an OSU medical plan as of May 30 will be mailed to homes in mid-June. The cards are issued by NGS American, which will replace Central Benefits as Ohio State's medical claims administrator, effective July 1. The NGS card will be a combined medical and pharmacy card, with the Medco Health logo and plan number. Two cards will be sent to every employee who is not enrolled in "employee only" coverage. All cards will have only the employee's name listed. Additional cards can be requested from NGS American at (877) 44-BUCKS. Central Benefits is not sending out ID cards in June to new employees who have submitted their health enrollment form. Instead, they will be sent a letter from the Office of Human Resources verifying health coverage. The letter can be used to verify medical plan enrollment to a health care provider if the new employee seeks medical attention prior to July 1. For more information, contact OHR customer service at service@hr.osu.edu, 292-1050 or (800) 678-6010.
