Photography workshop Stone Laboratory will host a nature photography workshop taught by Ian Adams from July 31-Aug. 2. The non-credit course is designed for novice and experienced photographers. Using Lake Erie Island landmarks and abundant natural subjects, the workshop will incorporate slide presentations, classroom seminars and field photography sessions with personal coaching, demonstrations and critiques. The cost of the workshop is $400, which includes two nights of lodging, all meals, and fees on Gibraltar Island. Enrollment is limited to 16 participants. Adams' photographs are featured in the acclaimed book Ohio: A Bicentennial Portrait, which contains 250 of his photos depicting Ohio's natural wonders and historic treasures. One of his photographs was recently selected by the U.S. Postal Service as the image on a 37-cent stamp issued to commemorate Ohio's bicentennial. For information about Adams, visit his Web site at www.ianadamsphotography.com. Bike path closed, detour postedThe bike path that runs along Cannon Drive is closed between John Herrick Drive and King Avenue, while the Ohio Department of Transportation builds new ramps for state Route 315. Walkers and bikers on Ohio State's campus should take the Cannon Drive to King Avenue detour and pick up the bike path at the intersection of Cannon and King. Despite "detour" and "road closed" signs and orange construction fencing blocking the bike path entrances, many people are still using the bike path, and it could have dangerous results, said Ferzan Ahmed, ODOT project engineer. The bike path runs through a construction zone where crews are operating 100-ton cranes, bulldozers and moving heavy materials. "We closed the bike path for everyone's safety," Ahmed said. He added that as work moves closer to the bike path, it's nearly impossible for equipment operators to spot walkers, joggers or bicyclists in the area. The sight problem is compounded by the hilly terrain. Crews are building a new bike path along the Olentangy River that will open in the summer of 2004, when the new bridges above it are complete.
