Cathy Rakowski, Women's Studies and Human and Community Resource Development, has received the 2003 Rodney F. Plimpton Young Teacher Award, the top teaching award offered by the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Jason Randel, Engineering Physics, received a scholarship from the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation for 2003-04. Dale Van Kley, History, had a session of the 49th annual meeting of the Society for French Historical Studies, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, April 3-5, "Critical Tribute to the Work of Dale Van Kley," devoted to him. Galal Walker, East Asian Languages and Literatures and the National East Asian Languages Resource Center, will receive the China Language and Culture Friendship Award, an international award for promoting Chinese language and culture, awarded to six recipients. Walker is the first recipient of the award from the English-speaking world, and has been invited by the Ministry of Education to travel to Beijing, China to attend the award ceremony. Carla Wilks, Community Extension Center, has been appointed to the African American Advisory Board for the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio. Sylvia Williams, Pathology, is the College of Medicine and Public Health/Office of Health Sciences Employee of the Month for May. Jeff Wolverton, Computer and Information Science, won an Academy Award for his work on "The ChubbChubbs" in the category of animated shorts.
