Office of Funding and Research Development revamps Web siteAs part of the Research Foundation's continuing effort to assist research faculty to identify funding opportunities, the Office of Funding and Research Development (OFRD) has revamped its Web site (http://rf.osu.edu/fnd-opp.htm) to increase the visibility of three institutionally important fund categories: the Limited Submission Funds, Notable Funds and Homeland Security Funds, said Sarah E. Starr, director of the OSURF's Office of Funding and Research Development. The Limited Submission Funds database provides information about funding opportunities by sponsors who limit the number of proposals the University can submit. The Web interface for this database can search by sponsor name or by college. Also included is the procedure the University uses to select final applicants for the Limited Submission programs. OFRD provides support to the Office of Research in managing the selection process. Starr said that the Notable Funds database tracks high profile and large dollar programs, while the Homeland Security database tracks programs that promote homeland security research, education and solution development. Each can be searched in a manner similar to Limited Submissions. The OFRD Web site also provides access to several other funding resources, including a funding opportunity alert service that can be customized to individual researcher funding needs and an Expertise Database, which allows access to information about the research interests of campus researchers. The latter information is particularly helpful in developing collaborative and interdisciplinary research programs. The Limited Submission, Notable and Homeland Security databases are one important component in supporting the increasing number and quality of grant proposals submitted by the University community, Starr said. Other activities include presentations to colleges and departments, workshops, one-on-one meetings with faculty, and close coordination with College Research Officers. For more information about services offered by the Office of Funding and Research Development, contact Sarah Starr at 688-5546 or starr.1@osu.edu.
