William J. Hicks has been appointed to the medical staff of Internal Medicine.

Recognitions

Brian Badgwell, Surgery, is the recipient of the 2002 John P. Minton Award, an honor recognizing the best research paper submitted to the annual meeting of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Brenda Brueggemann, English, won the 2002 Dick Maxwell Award for Outstanding Contribution to Students with Disabilities, from the Office of Disability Services.

Daniel Collins and Jacqueline Hartzell, Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures, was awarded certificates of appreciation from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, for their support of a student employee in the Air National Guard.

Saul Cornell, History, was awarded a month-long fellowship at the New York Public Library from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Stephanie Dunn, English, Mansfield, was selected to be an Affiliated Scholar with the Beatrice M. Bain Research Group (BBRG) at the University of California-Berkeley. BBRG fosters and coordinates scholarship on women and gender across disciplines.

Clive Edwards, Entomology, received the OARDC Senior Faculty Award, April 23.

Steve Gavazzi, Human Development and Family Science, and Mary Fristad, Psychiatry, conducted a research project that investigated the efficacy of a family psychoeducation program for children with mood disorders. Their project was identified as contributing to the No. 1 research finding in the state by the Ohio Department of Mental Health, April 2002.

Karen Hartker, Medicine and Public Health, received the College of Medicine and Public Health/Office of Health Sciences Employee for the month of June.

Mark Headings, Agricultural Technical Institute, received a 2002 NISOD Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas at Austin.

Sarah-Grace Heller, French and Italian, has been award the prize for Best Dissertation 2000-2002 at the University of Minnesota for her dissertation, "Robing Romance: Fashion in Literature in Thirteenth-Century France and Occitania."

Murli Narayan, Veterinary Biosicences, received 1st place and Wei Ding, Ohio State Biochemistry Program, received 2nd place for the Roche Molecular Biochemicals Distinguished Graduate Publication Award.

Laura Rush, Veterinary Biosicences, received 1st place and Bruce LeRoy received 2nd place for the "Roche Molecular Biochemicals Distinguished Graduate Seminar Award.

Anne M. VanBuskirk, Surgery, has been named the 2002 recipient of the Women's and Minority Faculty Award by the American Society for Tranplantation. VanBuskirk was recognized for research on post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder.

Julia Watson, Comparative Studies, has received a Camargo Foundation Residency Fellowship to Cassis, France, September-December, 2002.

Service

Donna A. Caniano, Surgery, and chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, was a guest editor of the November 2001 issue of Seminars in Pediatric Surgery.

Ted Futris, Human Development and Family Science and OSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences, was elected president of the Ohio Council on Family Relations.

Randall K. Wolf, Surgery, has been appointed to the strategic advisory board of Verimetra, Inc. a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices for the surgical industry.
