Recognitions

Charles Orosz, Surgery/Transplant, became president-elect 2004 at the annual meeting of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), Miami, Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2003. Orosz also has been appointed ASHI representative to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) board for 2004.

Kelly Scheiderer, Dentistry, was recognized as a Wellness Ambassador for winter quarter by the Faculty and Staff Wellness Program.

Gayle Strege, Consumer and Textile Sciences, worked with the Dublin Arts Council during the summer, loaning garments from the college for a fashion exhibition that appeared in their autumn guide to events and activities.

The following individuals received the 2002-03 Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Graduate Students: Rich Hollingsworth, Student Affairs for Planning and Student Development; Susan Huntington, Graduate Studies and Graduate School; Jim Patterson, former chairman of the Board of Trustees; and Tracy Stuck, Ohio Union and Student Affairs. Karla Zadnik, Optometry, was the first recipient of the James M. Siddens Award for Distinguished Faculty Advising.

Vadim Utkin, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, is the recipient of the 2003 Rufus Oldenburger Medal, awarded by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The medal recognizes significant contributions and outstanding achievement in the field of automatic control.

Li Yu, Eastern Asian Languages, was awarded the CGS/UMI Distinguished Dissertation Award at the Council of Graduate Schools annual meeting in San Francisco on Dec. 4, 2003.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has named six Ohio State engineering professors IEEE fellows for their contributions to the advancement of engineering science and technology: Kim Boyer, Electrical Engineering, was selected for his contributions to computer vision; Kevin Passino, Electrical Engineering, was selected for contributions to stability analysis of discrete event and intelligent systems; Giorgio Rizzoni, Ford Motor Company Chair in Electromechanical Systems, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, was selected for contributions in automotive control systems and leadership in interdisciplinary engineering education; Vadim Utkin, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, was selected for contributions to the theory of variable structure and sliding mode control; DeLiang Wang, Computer and Information science, was selected for contributions to advancing oscillatory correlation theory and its application to auditory and visual scene analysis; and Longya Xu, Electrical Engineering, was selected for contributions to the design, analysis, and control of doubly excited brushless reluctance machines.
