Project Greenlight film to be shown at Wexner CenterThe Wexner Center will host the Ohio premiere of HBO's Project Greenlight film The Battle of Shaker Heights at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23. The film's screenwriter, Ohio State graduate student Erica Beeney, will introduce the film following a reception that begins at 6 p.m. There will be a question and answer session after the screening. Beeney was pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at Ohio State when her script was chosen from thousands of entries in the Project Greenlight Contest in January 2003. A coming-of-age story about a young war re-enactor, the movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Elden Henson, Amy Smart and Kathleen Quinlan. The film was co-directed by independent filmmakers Efram Potelle and Kyle Rankin, also Project Greenlight contest-winners; executive producers are Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris Moore. The making of the movie has been documented on HBO over the past several months, and Miramax Films was slated to release the film in New York and Los Angeles Aug. 15. The Aug. 23 event is presented by the Wexner Center's 12 Circle, a group of young professionals focused on fostering interest in the contemporary arts. Faculty/staff wellness fair to be held Sept. 10The University Faculty and Staff Wellness Program is hosting the second annual health and wellness fair from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 10 at the French Field House. The fair will feature more than 90 service providers from the health, wellness and fitness industry. Attendees will receive free health screenings, chair massage, reflexology and exercise program consults with certified professionals. Free food and several door prizes will be awarded. Pre-race check-in begins at 4:30 pm. on race day. There is no registration fee to participate. The 3.1 mile run/walk is open to all university faculty and staff and serves as a kickoff event to the Sept. 10 faculty and staff wellness fair at the French Field House. Site created for meeting requests for presidentBecause of the volume of calendar requests that President Karen Holbrook receives, a Web site has been created where all event and meeting inquiries should be submitted. The Office of the President believes that this process will allow them to respond more quickly. An acknowledgement of the request will be sent. Convocation slated for Sept. 22Convocation, the traditional academic ceremony welcoming new students to the university, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22 at St. John Arena. New freshmen will experience their first academic procession, be welcomed by President Karen Holbrook and other university officials, and learn some of the history and traditions of Ohio State, including strolling through Ohio Stadium and the singing of Carmen Ohio. The ceremony will be closed-captioned. To officially greet new and regional campus transfer students, a new ceremony called Buckeye Welcome will be held from 4-5 p.m. in Weigel Hall. A dessert reception and a similar program to the morning ceremony will be featured. A sign language interpreter will be present.
