A ceremony marking the opening of the new Lane Avenue Bridge will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 on the bridge deck. Speakers will include Gov. Bob Taft, Mayor Michael Coleman and President Karen Holbrook, with entertainment provided by the OSU pep band and cheerleaders.

The new cable-stayed suspension bridge over the Olentangy River has been under construction since Nov. 25, 2002. The intensive year of construction also included the reconstruction of the Lane Avenue and Olentangy River Road intersection with newly aligned asphalt roadways featuring turn lanes, storm sewers, curbing and sidewalks, and the installation of new traffic signals, signage and street lighting.

The bridge is only the second cable-stayed suspension bridge entirely built in Ohio and Franklin County.

Funding for the $15.6 million project was provided by the Ohio Public Works Commission, Federal Highway Administration, Franklin County Engineer's Office (license plate fees) and the city of Columbus.
